Punjab University Faces Inquiry Over Chickens Kept in Department Building

Punjab University has launched an inquiry after reports emerged that chickens were allegedly being kept at the Electrical Engineering Department, with coops reportedly installed on the department’s roof and lawn.

The controversy intensified after a university security team reached the department to inspect the premises but was allegedly prevented from entering the building.

Security Team Allegedly Denied Entry

According to sources, department Director Dr. Kamran Abid refused to allow the investigation team to inspect the building.

The department’s main entrance was also reportedly locked, while security guards were posted outside.

The inspection team had been sent following directions from Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali.

Chickens Reportedly Kept on Roof and Lawn

Sources claimed that chickens were being kept in different areas of the department, including the roof and lawn.

Chicken coops had also allegedly been installed on the premises.

The university security team was reportedly tasked with verifying these claims and examining the use of departmental facilities.

Rs. 500,000 Reportedly Spent on Fencing

The reports further claimed that around Rs. 500,000 was spent on fencing installed for the chickens.

According to sources, the fencing allegedly obstructed students’ access to the main library.

It was also claimed that government employees working in the department had been assigned to look after the birds.

Inquiry Draws Attention

The matter has attracted further attention because Dr. Kamran Abid is reportedly a candidate for vice-chancellor positions at the University of Sargodha and the University of Sahiwal.

Reports have also referred to his previous involvement in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case.

The allegations remain based on source reports, and the outcome of the university’s inquiry will be important in establishing the facts.
